Purpose of Coalition

Please be advised that this is a living document and is periodically reviewed and updated to reflect changes in policy or procedures as well as our growth and development.
Our purpose is to bring organizations together to leverage our collective voices and resources towards expanding access to reproductive and sexual health care in New Jersey especially for communities that have been historically marginalized. We will center our coalition work with learnings from the reproductive justice movement. While centering the voices of historically marginalized and underrepresented communities at the core of all our strategies, our primary coalition work will be:

  • Advocating as a coalition for key issues related to racial, economic, environmental, and immigrant justice and gender equality as part of a broader reproductive justice and access framework.

  • Focusing on expanding access to reproductive healthcare and abortion care in the Garden State.

  • Deliberately providing opportunities for organizational members to sign on and lend their support to specific pieces of legislation or public statements.

Shared Values, Guiding Principles, & Best Practices

Thrive NJ’s greatest strength is our diversity. We have different community and organizational lenses and priorities including different influence and power to implement those priorities.  Together, we can multiply our power to create lasting change. We are committed to engaging with our coalition partners to identify shared priorities and collaborate on policy campaigns and other joint goals, while recognizing that as many different organizations with different missions, we also will work individually to achieve our own missions and visions.  We are committed to open, transparent communication about the issues and to attempting to reach a mutually agreeable solution.
